Life is going slow, mostly because it's a waiting game for now. Despite being already officially hired it feels like I still haven't landed the gig. Headquarters is in renovation so my training is postponed. But at least I have a first impression at work tomorrow. Get to know how things are run around the place. And hei I'm really glad seeing the boys starting to get known around the bend. There's still much more to do but they've got their first steps right. Mainstream spotlight is best avoided unless you wanna be yet another Bunky-band(yes, I'am making that term official) or a Dandy-"folk" singer. But I guess everyone's gotta make a living eih?
Oh and does anyone by any chance know contacts for Urbanscapes? Tadpole is looking for a spot to perform. No busking this year.
Well hei, I got plans in motion. I told you, it's just a waiting game.
There's been quite a few new albums out this year. But I'll just mention a few for now. Starting with Kaki King's fifth album Junior, that just came out last Tuesday.
She's taken a somewhat more mainstream path with this one though. More vocals than ever in this album. But the old Kaki feel still prevails in songs like, 'Sloan Shore' and 'My Nerves That Committed Suicide'. I really love the latter! (y) But I have to say, MGMT's Congratulations which also came out on the same date disappointed me more. Only because if you compare it to Oracular Spectacular though. It's a pretty decent album itself but it'll take a few listens before it hooks you on. Same goes to Efterklang's Magic Chairs that came out on the 22nd of February. If you compare it to Parades. Though 'Modern Drift' is quite ace!
And last but not least, 20 year old(yeah she's my age, makes you ponder on what you're capable of) Laura Marling's I Speak Because I Can that came out on the 22nd of March. In this one there's no more adorable fast paced songs like 'Ghosts' or 'Cross Your Fingers', except for 'Darkness Descends'(don't be fooled by the title). Most of the songs show her more mature side, dealing with "responsibility, particularly the responsibility of womanhood". Compared to Alas, I Cannot Swim, she has radically changed, though still retaining the country folk sound. Well, she did write her debut album when she was 17.. Heck! I was still deliberately failing my papers in school when I was 17(shit, inferiority complex kicking in! haha).Oh and hei, the song that I've only been able to hear through this one live performance is now in the album, 'Blackberry Stone'. In the video she performed the song with Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons. And speaking of Mumford & Sons, getting a copy of Sigh No More soon!! Man, all these London based folk music young 'uns, how'd they come out and about? Well, fyi, Laura, Mumford & Sons, and Noah and The Whale are all actually a really close lot. No wonder eih?
"He's a prophet and a pusher, partly truth, partly fiction — a walking contradiction."
Been living underground for the past few months. I've wasted so much time thinking instead of acting. Some actions I regret because they were not executed, some because they were, and some because I've delayed. It seems the longer I put off doing something(or anything), the longer it could of have remained as something to look upon each day, instead of something I fucked up, again and again. It's like I give up before I even started. But the pursuit of happiness is not a easy path to be thread.
I read somewhere once that by the time you reach 30, that's the time when you get your head straight, but your body fails you. But at my current pace I might never reach that in time, either getting the jigsaws into place or healthwise. A few weeks ago I had a sudden realization. That this, was not going to work for me. So I've made arrangements and have worked my way into getting the wheels to turn again, in the right direction. It's been a long few weeks but life will be better, soon.. I hope.
Really, just got a lot of things on my mind of late. I'll post more often in the future, and perhaps something less old fart talk.. perhaps something about the awesome date that is this April 13th! Both Kaki King's Junior and MGMT's Congratulations new album releases! And I've got tons of films and albums under my belt that I want to share since last we talked fellow stalkers. Till then, au revoir!
